China: Weakened Muifa moves northward along east coast of China

At 6:00 p.m. today the Central Meteorological Office continues to issue Orange alert for typhoon: Muifa, the 9th severe typhoon in this year, has weakened into a typhoon. At 5:00 p.m. today it was centered about 285 km east by south of Zhoushan City, Zhejiang province (28.9N, 124.9E) with maximum wind force scale 13 (40m/s).

It is forecasted to move north by west at speed of 20 km per hour and skim offshore of Zhoushan islands northward approaching eastern coast of Shandong peninsular gradually.

Affected by Muifa, in the next 24 hours from 8:00 p.m. there will be gale with scale 7 to 9 with isolated scale 10 to 12 affecting most parts of Yellow Sea, most parts of East China Sea, northeastern and coast of Zhejiang, eastern Shanghai, Hangzhou Bay, coast of Jiangsu, southern and eastern coast of Shandong peninsular. Muifa will bring gale up to scale 10 to 13 and gust up to scale 14 and 15.

There will be strong wind with and scale 6 and 7 and gust up to scale 8 to 9 affecting Taiwan Strait, east of Taiwan, southern coast of Zhejiang, northern and eastern coast of Taiwan, and northern Fujian coast. Eastern Hebei, eastern Tianjin, central and eastern Shandong, eastern Jiangsu, Shanghai, and eastern Zhejiang will see heavy rain or rainstorm, of which parts of eastern Jiangsu, Shanghai and Zhejiang will be hit by severe rainstorm.
